The piano is an incredibly intricate instrument. It has over 12,000 parts, 10,000 of which are moving. This means your piano needs a little TLC throughout the year to keep it sounding beautiful.

Queen Piano Service is committed to taking care of each and every part for you.

FAQ’s

  • It may sound a little elitist, but I always recommend people find a Registered Piano Technician. Experience doesn’t always equal competence, but that certification sure does.

  • You should have your piano tuned at least twice a year, around the time of the season changes.

Pianos are tension-based machines. Over time, strings lose their tension and the pitch of a piano goes flat, usually inconsistently, resulting in a bad, “out-of-tune” sound. Humidity also drastically affects the pitch of a piano, as the entire body is made of wood and expands and contracts through the seasons.

  • A tuning takes about 1.5-2 hours, potentially more if a pitch raise is needed (if the piano is veryyy out of tune and/or it hasn’t been tuned in years).

  • Clients do not need to be home for the tuning or service! If you choose to be at your home when I am working, I will simply need a quiet environment (no tv, no lawnmower, no vacuum, etc) and any items on top of the piano removed so that I can access the tuning pins and strings.

  • Humidity drastically affects the sound and the lifespan of a piano. If your home regularly has drastic humidity changes, or if you like to open the windows often, you may want to consider a humidity-regulating system. You will also want to make sure that your piano is optimally placed: not on top of or directly below an air vent, not in direct sunlight for long periods of time, etc.

  • That’s ok, that is actually normal, especially if you are a new piano owner! Booking a basic service like tuning is the best choice and if when I get there you do not need the service booked, don’t worry. We can apply your service fee to whatever service is needed.
